About Somatic
Somatic formed in Feb 2024 – Rubi, Chris, Michael and Ben are from the singing group Vox Canvas – who will be representing Australia at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Barbershop Competition in Denver, Colorado in the US early July 2025
Vox and Somatic are a weird and diverse group of singers with a passion for vocal artistry

What is “somatic”
(End of 2022, before actually starting quartetting;) Our Baritone was originally a guy who has currently has run off to become a famous badass indie jazz-rock legend – Winestock!
‘The’ Mr. Winestock, Rubi and Ben are very into DND / Dungeons-And-Dragons, and when you cast a spell in the game, you need one or multiple of : Verbal component (say an incantation), Material component (raising dead destroys one diamond), and Somatic component (somatic means pertain-to-the-body, or in general, movement) – like, wave your arms around, so if you are tied up by goblins, you can’t cast all your spells…
However~! our group now contains 2 doctors, and somatic is used a lot in medical jargon too
Etymology: having to do with the body, late 18th century: from Greek sÅmatikos, from sÅma âbodyâ
